Description:
First Descents (FD) provides outdoor adventures and community support for young adults impacted by cancer, MS and other serious health issues.
FD Core Programs are free weeklong outdoor adventure experiences for first-timers that empower participants to climb, paddle, and surf beyond their diagnosis, reclaim their lives, and connect with others doing the same. They are available to young adults ages 18-45 (diagnosed ages 15-39) who have received a cancer or MS diagnosis, as well as qualifying caregivers (ages 18-45) and healthcare workers (ages 18-45) in the cancer or MS medical fields.
FD Community Adventures (CA) are nationwide, locally led adventure meetups open to anyone aged 18+, including program alumni, friends, family and FD supporters. Free or requiring a nominal fee, CAs are shorter experiences, anything from a one-hour hike to a half-day rafting trip, a weekend hut-to-hut snowshoeing excursion or a backcountry backpacking trek.
We’ll meet you where you’re at. We’ll teach you everything you need to know. Our goal is to get you on a healing adventure that works for you, as soon as possible.
