Elaine Schattner - November 2014
Forbes reported on the findings of two new studies looking at the relationships between employment, finance and cancer. The author writes about the intersection of these issues and how they are becoming increasingly important to address:
"As the number of U.S. cancer survivors climbs toward 18 million, and as people live for more years after diagnosis, these problems will become increasingly prevalent. These presentations reflect that oncology professionals are finally acknowledging, if not solving, patients’ concerns about work and debt. Traditionally, discussions of employment, time off and medical bills were side-lined in the context of decisions about surgery, chemotherapy and medical choices."
