Kate Selig - February 2025
Dr. Bryant Lin is a clinical professor at Stanford University and a primary care physician. He is the founder of the Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education which has an initiative to study lung cancer in nonsmokers. When he was himself diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, he decided to use it in his work. He continued practicing medicine and created a course called "From Diagnosis to Dialogue: A Doctor’s Real-Time Battle With Cancer".
He lectured using real life examples from his own treatment, including the disappointment he felt when scans showed his tumor had shrunk but not disappeared. Guests in class included oncologists and even his wife who helped lead a class on the caregiving experience. On the final day of class he told the students, "I close in saying that I may have had a tough break, but I have an awful lot to live for. Thank you. And it’s been an honor."
