Ben Botkin - January 2025
Rep. Sarah Finger McDonald found out her cancer had returned five days after being elected to the Oregon state House for the first time. Originally diagnosed and treated for colon cancer in 2021, McDonald was serving on the Corvallis school board at the time. She went through 20 rounds of chemotherapy, and made it to most board meetings. "I’ve dealt with lots of obligations successfully before during treatment," McDonald said.
This time around she is getting ready for a new chemotherapy treatment as the legislative session is about to begin and has said she will work from the Capital most days. "There will be days when I’m getting treatment and or I’m tired, where I may not be as available as people may think I should be. But that doesn’t mean I’m not getting the work done."
