Jeff Neiburg - July 2024
Karlie Kisha is competing on the US Field Hockey team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In late April she was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. She had been training for decades to have a chance to play in the Olympics and was not sure if she would be able to compete. But a week after surgery in May, she was on a plane to continue training with her team. She continued treatment with radiation, and just two weeks before the start of the Olympics was told she was officially in remission.
"I'm extremely grateful and just very, very happy that I can still be able to do this...It's been very tough to think that this goal, this dream that I've had for so long can be taken away at any moment...These are going to be some of the highest highs and the lowest lows that I'll ever go through...It's all part of the process and a part of the journey and I'm just grateful that I'm still able to do this."
