Jason Freese, a musician touring with Green Day for the past two decades, took some time off in 2024 for treatment of lung cancer. His diagnosis came after thinking he pulled a muscle cleaning his gutters brought him to the ER. He was instead diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer. 

"My entire life since birth has been music...It was the first time in my life where I wasn't playing or writing or doing anything, but I wasn't aware of it because I was so hyper-focused on just health and getting healthy." 

Freese was able to get back on stage before the end of the year though after he was officially in remission. "It was incredible getting back out and going, 'Okay, I did it. I conquered it and I didn't let cancer beat me'"
