Julie Calhoun - May 2023
Linda O'Brien continued to work full-time during her treatment for breast cancer. In October 2019, O'Brien had shingles due to her weakened immune system. In order to protect a pregnant co-worker, she asked to work from home until she recovered. Two days later she was fired.
"I lost a group of people that I thought were supporting me. I am a single woman. I don't have anybody else's income to fall back on. It was a very, very scary place to be," O’Brien said. "I didn't want to go into litigation, but I couldn't sit by and let somebody treat me as if I didn't matter because I do matter. We all matter."
Last month a jury awarded her $3.2 million in damages in a discrimination suit.
