Lanae Brody - July 2022
Dancing with the Stars’ Whitney Carson revealed recently to People Magazine that she did not disclose her cancer diagnosis during her first season on the show. "I think I was embarrassed only in the fact that I was an athlete and I was supposed to be encompassing everything healthy and fit. I was supposed to be doing all the right things to be an athlete, and so it was embarrassing for me to be like, 'Yes, I was sick.' The producers didn't know. My partner didn't know. I wanted people to think I was perfectly healthy."
Shortly before her first season, she was diagnosed with melanoma and underwent surgery to remove a mole on her foot, and lymph nodes in her hip. Her doctors hadn’t given the all clear for physical activity, but she defied their orders in pursuit of her dream. She had to have her foot wrapped after every performance to prevent stitches from opening up.
