Dennis Parry, a hearing-impaired manger at a Pennsylvania Best Buy, was worried when he learned that employees would be required to wear face masks as a COVID-19 safety measure. He relies on reading lips to communicate with customers and coworkers, so a wearing a mask would make that impossible. After learning about his concern, Best Buy worked with Dennis to figure out a solution that would meet his needs, as well as keep everyone safe.
The solution? A mask with a clear vinyl window around the mouth. “I told him that his simple request would inspire a completely new perspective, and no matter what it takes, we’d find a way for him to feel connected and have the ability to communicate”, said Shannon Albu, senior manager of field brand strategy.
