All.Can. - September 2019
While efficiency has been highlighted in healthcare recently, too often the patient perspective is lost in the definition. Based on a recent survey of nearly 4,000 cancer patients from over 10 countries, most reported that their needs were sufficiently addressed during their care, but did highlight some specific areas where improvements are needed.
The four areas include: 1. Ensuring swift, accurate and appropriated delivered diagnosis 2. Improve information-sharing, support and shared decision-making 3, Make integrated multidisciplinary care a reality for all patients 4. Address the financial implications of cancer.
According to one respondent, "I was not really given any info about how long to recover from chemo or returning to work. I had to devise my own return-to-work plan". We at Cancer and Careers are very aware of this gap in care when it comes to information about work during, and after, cancer.
