Alexandria Glorioso - August 2018
Alexandria Glorioso is a journalist, so she is used to exploring and researching topics both familiar and foreign to her. However, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she embraced her profession as a way of coping with her diagnosis.
While recognizing the complicated nature of this relationship to her work and her personal experience, she states, "Straddling that line is so bizarre. To write this story, I filled out a patient consent form that allows me to write about getting treated for my own disease...All patients have a right to know what's happening to them and how they will be treated, but I feel far more empowered to exercise that right in my professional capacity than in my personal one. In short, I'm coping with cancer by reporting on it."
