John Henderson - July 2018
Leona Burton has been an employee of the Bay County Tax Collector's office for over 20 years and is regarded as a staple in the office. Upon being diagnosed with lung cancer, her co-workers and customers have stepped up to support her. Her team made posters and videos as a way to show her they were there for her.
Aside from the emotional support, they've also assured her not to be concerned about needing days off for treatment. Her co-workers have stepped in to cover her work and have continued communicating with her as she receives treatment.
A co-worker said about Burton, "It doesn't matter what kind of day she's having. When you encounter her, you can tell she's exhausted and she's still smiling. She has such an upbeat attitude; it's an inspiration to all of us."
