Moira Vetter - May 2018
Sonia Kashuk, cosmetics-industry leader and CAC Board Member, has been a prominent figure in the beauty & fashion industry for more than 30 years. While she watched her brand grow, she was also very vigilant about monitoring her health. Because her mother and grandmother died from breast cancer, Kashuk was in a “high-surveillance program” at Sloan-Kettering. When she was diagnosed, in 2006, she was in the midst of preparing for her upcoming brand launch at Target.
After her diagnosis, Kashuk realized that her professional success had provided her with an amazing platform from which to help others going through similar experiences; so when she was approached by Cancer and Careers to join its Board of Governors, she immediately said, “I’m in.” She knew it would be the perfect opportunity for her to support others who are striving to balance work and cancer.
