Christine Copelan - February 2018
At 19, Shannon Miller was the most decorated Olympic gymnast in history. She's added a few more titles since then: health advocate, mother, and ovarian cancer survivor. Miller, with pharmaceutical company Tesaro, has created the Our Way Forward campaign, bringing the conversation about ovarian cancer to the forefront.
Miller sat down with Parade Magazine to discuss some of the aspects of her cancer journey, and how she's adapted to her new roles. Miller credits her experience as an athlete with helping her through some of the tough aspects of cancer. She recalls applying "Lessons of goal-setting and perseverance and teamwork. I began to apply those to my treatment and then I kind of had to readjust as I was going through my post-treatment phase and understanding that my goals may be different."
