Helmut Schmidt - September 2017
Superintendent of Moorhead School district, Lynne Kovash, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year but continues to work "as her health and energy allow." Kovash has been able to work remotely as she undergoes cancer treatments. Kovash's ability to continue working has been largely a team effort. When she is unable to work due to treatments or recovering from treatment, the districts administrative team covers her responsibilities as part of a plan established when she disclosed her diagnosis.
The district's executive director for human resources said the school board voted at their June 25 meeting to allow Kovash to take intermittent leave and to work as she was able. The district is exemplifying that having planning meetings and conversations can be instrumental in the ability to continue to work through treatment.
