Mizuho Aoki - August 2017
The good news is that advances in medicine have enabled a great many more cancer patients to return to work after treatment, the bad news is that there are mounting difficulties with that transition back. Many individuals face pay cuts and struggle to cover medical and living costs, according to a recent study by Lifenet Insurance Co.
A survey conducted in June of 566 patients, 56% cited that their annual salary was reduced. The reasons for the cuts included taking leave, reducing workloads and changing jobs. Many faced conditions where they were given little choice but to quit and 43% stated their companies did not have support systems in place, such as special leave for treatment or shorter working hours.
