Alaska State Senator, Shelley Hughes, has announced to the public that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, which was found during a routine mammogram exam earlier this year. Despite this announcement, Hughes has said she will continue serving her district.
Sharing how it felt to be a public official with a life-changing diagnosis Hughes states, "when you choose the life of a public servant, your life is not your own in the same kind of way." Hughes has made it clear that she has no intention of going anywhere, adding "I'm taking the bull by the horns here and rip-roarin' to go to beat this thing."
