Diya Koshy George - April 2017
Looking at Ruchi Dilbagi walking into her job at the call center she works at, one would be unable to tell life had not always been smooth sailing. As Manager of Direct Marketing at one of India's biggest banks, Dilbagi has worked hard to not only keep but grow in her position. The same year she joined a leading Indian bank , she discovered a lump in her breast. She decided to ignore it since she was in the busy part of her work year.
She finally went to the doctor and was told the tumor was malignant and she needed immediate surgery and chemo. Her job was accommodating upon her return; they allowed her to work out of another branch closer to her home so she wouldn't have to risk being in the call center with her low immune system. Her employer also stepped up by covering her medical expenses even though she hadn't been there long enough to be entitled yet.
Despite her poor health, Dilbagi was determined to be fully committed to her job. "Also, I did not want people to think I was incapable because I was unwell" she recounts.
