The non-profit Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK has recently published research showing that money worries can affect people struggling to cope with cancer when they least expect it. They warn that a lack of a financial safety net can result in a great number of people vulnerable to financial hardship.
Cancer can be tough on people's finances; aside from loss of income due to time off from work, there are the additional costs for travel to and from hospital appointments, among other incurred costs. Macmillan is encouraging more efforts to be made to provide cancer patients with assistance in gaining welfare benefits so the financial stress of cancer can be eased.
