Newburgh Mayor, Judy Kennedy, dismissed her growing belly as a symptom of her busy lifestyle. However, she realized it may be something more serious and went to her doctor. Kennedy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May of 2016.
As Kennedy learned to adapt her life. Though she preferred alternative remedies over the more traditional, she now credits chemotherapy with her recovery. She states, "I think this cancer is definitely a teacher" as she has learned to re-balance her self-identified 'do-it-myself workaholic' ways with the realities of life.
