Mike G. Morreale - November 2017
New Jersey Devils center, Brian Boyle, has made a return to playing following his recent diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Boyle received the diagnosis after getting a blood test taken as a part of his training camp physical in September. He was given clearance to practice with the team on October 21st.
Boyle views this experience as an opportunity for him to "advocate and raise awareness, money and funds for this disease" because he is a "fortunate one". Teammate Adam Henrique was thrilled about Boyle's return, stating, "the most amazing thing for me is his attitude through the whole thing...he didn't change at all. He's such a presence and has been a leader on every team he's played for."
