In a move that has positively shaken up the business world, professional services company Deloitte LLP has implemented into their employee package paid leave for all types of care giving. Fortune magazine suggests this is a way to attract and retain the best and brightest by offering a package that more accurately reflects workers' needs.
Beginning this month, Deloitte will now offer up to 16 weeks of fully paid leave, not limited to maternity and paternity leave, but also eldercare and aid for other sick family members or partners. According to a Deloitte spokesperson, they really wanted to recognize that care giving is not limited to new parents, and it can affecct a broader range of employee experiences. This is an example of the understanding of companies that in order to both hire and retain workers, the benefits must reflect an understanding of changing needs.
