Christina Morgan - September 2016
Claudia Besco has been working as a nurse in an oncology clinic for 25 years, and is very passionate about her job. So, after being diagnosed with cancer, it was no surprise she was right back at work following a 12-week leave for chemotherapy and surgery. Though still undergoing radiation, she maintains a positive outlook and attitude.
Returning to the Children's Hospital and seeing 25 patients a day, the inspiration is mutual between Besco and her patients, as they find themselves experiencing similar emotions and procedures. She takes an honest approach to her work, recognizing that not everyone survives cancer, but also has made the conscious decision not to dwell on that part so that she is able to do her job as best she can.
Besco understands the ups and downs of cancer, as well as working with those with cancer. However, at the end of the day she really recognizes that she is able to help people and she gets more from the job than she gives.
