Leanne Pooley - August 2016
Leanne Pooley completed treatment for her stage three breast cancer last year. As she was leaving the hospital on the day of her last radiation dose, she expected to feel celebratory, but that was the last thing she felt, rather she was lost in confusion and doubt. Pooley describes feeling a level of fear higher than she had even when she was initially told of her diagnosis.
She decided to address these feelings of anxiety with her oncologist who reassured her these feelings are not uncommon. The distraction of fighting the disease and symptoms, kept her from thinking about dying, or even what life might be like. When she discusses these concerns with her doctor she's told she has to get used to the "new normal" but what, Pooley asks herself, does that really mean?
