In thanks to more preventive screenings and earlier diagnosing, as well as improvements in treatment, those with cancer are living longer. Whereas originally many focused on how to live through cancer, the focus has now shifted on how to live after cancer.
A report released by cancer organization, Macmillan Cancer Support, shows that while it's extraordinary that survival rates continue to increase, there are still one of four cancer patients reporting debilitating and serious side effects after treatment. Two survivors share their experience, and how they've learned to adjust to their new bodies and selves following their cancer journey. While their experiences were different, one thing remains the same and that is that despite their new limitations, they are determined to enjoy and appreciate life.
