The News Minute speaks with a few young cancer survivors who share how they handled the shock of diagnosis and what effects it had on their careers. Though many cite the struggle of keeping up with work, they also share their mentality during the difficult times.
Mark Rego, an emcee, was a daily wage earner so if he did not work, he did not get paid. Though there were times when Rego says getting out of bed was the hardest thing he had to do, he never stopped working, citing high levels of personal pride but also that it gave him more control over the cancer, showing it would not get the best of him.
Dr. Shankar, an oncologist at Apollo hospital Channai advises patients to stick to their routines as much as possible. Shankar states, " working allows cancer patients a diversion from thinking about their ailments, and it keeps depression at bay."
