In 2013, Ryan Hidinger was diagnosed with stage IV gallbladder cancer and was told he would have six months to live. Though this put the brakes on the plans he and his wife Jen had of opening their own restaurant, the experience gave them a new purpose and they decided to found a nonprofit called The Giving Kitchen. The organization builds a safety net for Atlanta's restaurant workers. Ryan watched the tremendous growth of the organization and just how important his impact would be.
Though Ryan passed, his wife continues his legacy. To date, the charity has awarded $650,000 in grant money to 368 recipients, with estimations of awarding almost $500, 000 this year.
