Ida Newton has been a fixture as a hairdresser in downtown Edmond for almost 50 years. Despite three bouts of cancer, and losing her hair twice, Newton continues the work she loves. Following her first robotic cancer treatment when she'd been told she'd be out of work for three months, Newton returned to the shop in just 10 days. She managed her symptoms by making her environment work for her, such as sitting on a stool while styling hair instead of standing.
"Working has been my salvation. I enjoy it. It gets me up and going, versus sitting in the house going stir-crazy," she said.
