Though there's a sense of relief upon successfully battling cancer, many don't realize the challenges of the reality of life after diagnosis and treatment. After undergoing a life-changing event many may want to return to their normal routines, however, some find there is a new normal and they don't want to return to the routines. There can be a desire to make changes in their lives, often beginning within their careers.
According to a Harris Poll on behalf of Cancer and Careers, 31% of patients and survivors find themselves seeking a new career. Many cite new interests following a diagnosis and treatment, as well as refocusing their perspectives. Maintaining authority of one's own life is a top priority for many cancer survivors and that can begin in the workplace.
