Javier Munoz, the understudy for Lin-Manuel Miranda in 'Hamilton' has recently disclosed that he was diagnosed with cancer in October. He has had to miss a number of the Sunday performances in which he covers for the lead. When in November he had to take time off for surgery and radiation, Miranda jumped in to fill the Sunday shows. Munoz was amazed at see what his co-stars did to make sure they could keep Munoz's role for him.
Director Thomas Kail states, "There was no thought at all about [replacing him]...Javi's someone who has given so much., now we wanted to make sure he had what he needed to be well and to know he wasn't alone." Between his employment security and the efforts of his cast mates to provide food deliveries to his apartment every day, Munoz felt truly supported.
