The Health, Labor, and Welfare Ministry of Japan has released guidelines to help cancer patients continue working while undergoing treatment, the first of it's kind to be issued. As part of work support based on the Cancer Control Law, the guidelines include measures companies should take to help those suffering from cancer to continue working.
The guidelines encourage companies to communicate with employees about their condition and necessary care at work, and also to work with industrial doctors to develop a work support program to help employees work comfortably. Additionally the guidelines also urge companies to introduce systems allowing workers to take leave on an hourly basis or to shift their working hours as need.
