At the recent Community Oncology Alliance summit, much of the discussion focused on the role of employers in their employees cancer care and experience. More and more employers and healthcare professionals are recognizing the challenges that come with cancer as it relates to the workplace, and how they can help.

According to Marianne Fazen, of the Texas Business Group on Health, the top 3 challenges for employers are: cost, quality of care, and supporting employees who have cancer as they try to return to work and a sense of normalcy. Fazen suggests that "the employer needs to accommodate them at the workplace, providing options such as rest time, changing their job profile to avoid heavy lifting, etc."
