Courtney Hazlett - October 2016
When Jackie Froeber felt a lump in her breast one morning in May of 2016, she knew things were going to change. Upon her diagnosis, Froeber's experience was in many ways similar to others with the diagnosis, however, an unexpected turn was the fight with her employer over her hair, or rather, lack of it.
During chemo, Froeber's hair started falling out in clumps so she took the brave move of shaving her head. Froeber was told that she would have to use a "before" picture of herself with long blonde hair, to be used in the magazine where she was an editor. Froeber was told she'd have to sign a contract that she would promise to only use this picture. Froeber refused to sign the document and was terminated. Though it was her dream job, Froeber feels empowered by what has happened and proud that she stood up for herself.
