Hillary Clinton campaign worker, Tyrone Gayle, was fighting Stage 4 colon cancer when he sent her an email she says helped to influence one of her most important decisions. The email was an update on his own health, as well as to urge Clinton to select Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate. Gayle, though in active treatment, didn't want to miss a beat.
Having worked on Sen. Tim Kaine's campaign as his assistant, Gayle was heavily invested into politics when he was diagnosed. Fully committed and anxious to return, Gayle adapted his work style as he was in recovery knowing that with an election, there's no time to waste. By working remotely on a computer, with reporters, via cell phone, Gayle was able to continue with his passion.
Gayle only missed about a month of work, claiming that after a year of work on the campaign he did not want to "let the campaign pass me by". He had an understanding that people take hiatuses from work during treatment but "I knew I wanted to see this thing through".
