President Mark J. Czarnecki of M&T Bank Corp. has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A spokesman said that he is actively engaged and continue to work while he begins treatment over the next few months at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City — though it may take him away from work intermittently.

“Needless to say, we have many important initiatives that need our full-time attention, but I have tremendous faith in our management team, including and especially all of you,” he wrote in the memo. “I know that you will continue working together to deliver outstanding results for the employees, customers, shareholders and communities we serve. As always, I am grateful for the work you do, the contributions you make and the success you achieve.”
