Elizabeth Nagel, 23, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer three years ago, during her junior year at Michigan State University. She underwent surgery and learned to manage it's side effects, including temperature swings, and behavior changes. She worked with her trainer to regain mobility and return to school and the Michigan State Golf Team.
Nagel qualified this year for the LPGA Symetra Tour and has also qualified for the U.S. Open.
"I was really lucky to have a coach, the support system and the family that I do, because they really stuck with me," Nagel said. "Everybody believed in me. Something like that ends careers quite often. For me, it's made me better and made me stronger. I'm really thankful that they stuck with me, because without it, I definitely wouldn't be on Tour, that's for sure."
