Rita Wilson recently spoke with People about her breast cancer diagnosis and double mastectomy, how it impacted her current play and why getting a second opinion is so important. She explains her decision to take time away from work in the article, saying "'I have taken a leave from the play Fish in the Dark to deal with a personal health issue,' reveals Wilson, who will return to the Broadway play on May 5."
Wilson goes on to stress the importance of getting a second opinion after a diagnosis, which is what she did after a friend who had had breast cancer recommended she do so. Wilson said this is a big part of the reason that she is sharing her diagnosis and treatment publicly, in hopes that it will encourage others to seek second opinions when it comes to diagnoses.
