As an HR professional or manager, while you are not expected to understand all of the variables, there are certain things you can think about in order to be a better resource for clarity and support.
Rebecca Nellis, chief mission officer at Cancer and Careers, offers up a few helpful tips for how to effectively support an employee with cancer. Knowing relevant information on company policy, familiarity with laws that protect employees in the workplace, and tuning into how the employee is approaching you, are all methods to handle the sensitive situation appropriately and in the most supportive way.
