The News Advance recently wrote about Stephen Wade, a retired Lynchburg firefighter who says his work experience helped him beat cancer. The article explains "Lynchburg native Stephen M. Wade says being in the life-saving field for nearly 50 years was more than a career; it was how he beat cancer." Wade's illness forced him to retire, but he kept volunteering with the Concord Rescue Squad and teaching basic-level EMS classes. He said that helping other people was the best therapy he could have had, and that was what got him through his cancer journey.
