David Heitz - January 2015
Healthline News published an article on returning to the workplace after battling a chronic illness; it features advice from one of our career coaches, Rosalind Joffe.
In the piece, writer David Heitz points out that, “whether we want to admit it or not, living means working. Our work often defines us.” That sentiment echoes much of what we at Cancer and Careers hear from cancer patients and survivors.
Heitz goes on to say that many people who “turn the corner in the battle against a chronic illness...may want the workplace to be a stop on [their] road to recovery.”
The article explains that as the number of cancer survivors continues to grow, support around helping survivors get back to work is becoming increasingly important. Also covered in the piece are a number of key topics relevant to patients and survivors trying to manage their job and cancer, such as returning to work, the Affordable Care Act, reasonable accommodations and career change.
