West Australian baseball star Ben Shorto had just signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians and was about to start his baseball career in America when he was diagnosed with leukemia, reports ABC News Australia. Shorto had a hard time following his diagnosis, "'I had six months of treatment, then relapsed and had to have another three months of radiation," he said. 'It was pretty devastating because my career just started and for that to be taken away from me, or at least be paused for two years, was really big.'"
The Indians let Shorto go, but he has recently restarted his baseball career, playing for Perth Heat in the Australian Baseball League (ABL) this season. He's doing really well and is hoping to have another chance at playing in the U.S.
