The Humble Observer writes about former staffer Maria Moss, whose breast cancer diagnosis inspired her to switch careers — from journalism to music.
“During her recovery, [Maria] Moss reconnected with something from her earlier life, becoming reacquainted with the guitar. ‘Playing guitar helped me recover.... Lifting [the guitar] and holding the neck with that left hand while playing was great physical therapy, especially for those muscles that had not been used much while I was recovering from surgery. So physically, it helped me a lot. But it helped mentally, too.’ Moss said that her diagnosis and subsequent treatment forced her to examine her life and consider whether or not a corporate journalism career was how she really wanted to spend what was left of her life.”
