The Belfast Telegraph - September 2014
The Belfast Telegraph shared the story of Karen Gribbon, who had just made the decision to leave her job to stay at home with her three children when she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Her diagnosis lead to another career of sorts, when she started blogging about her cancer experience. Gribbon said, " 'The diagnosis was such a shock and before I even got the chance to say my final goodbyes in the workplace, the big C took a hold of my life.' " She said that these experiences are what inspired her to start blogging about her journey.
For many patients and survivors, sharing their cancer experience online — whether through blogging, as Gribbon did, or by posting updates to other social media platforms — can be therapeutic. It can also help survivors create a sense of community, by engaging with others who are going through similar challenges. While the decision to go public with a diagnosis is a very personal one, we always encourage you to think about your online image before sharing online.
