Jim Ed Brown, a country singer who has had a recording career spanning 60 years, recently disclosed to his fans and the music community that he was diagnosed with lung cancer, reports 13 WMAZ. Brown will take the next few months off the road to deal with the diagnosis. Brown posted to his Facebook page to share the news of his diagnosis, saying "...After testing, the doctors have asked me to take the next 4 months off from touring and to focus on chemotherapy and radiation treatments to shrink the cancer cells. I will keep you all updated on the progress."
Disclosing a diagnosis, choosing to take time off for treatment and discussing a diagnosis online are all personal choices. Some people choose to be open and share as Brown did, while others keep the information private. Whichever path you choose, just be sure to think through any repercussions that may come from going public with your diagnosis down the road.
