The Chronicle recently wrote a brief but inspiring piece on Dairy Joy Drive-In co-owner Jan Wahlgren, who was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in May, but still bikes to work every day. Despite her cancer spreading, she still tries to get to work seven days a week to server her customers. She has received many letters of encouragement, some of which she has taped up in the drive-in.
Many patients and survivors choose to work after their diagnosis, as Wahlgren is doing, because it gives them a sense of purpose and normalcy. More information on working after a diagnosis can be found here.
