The Mail Online wrote a piece highlighting the stories of the finalists in this year's YOU/Breast Cancer Care model competition. The runner-up, Sharyn Wilde, discussed her experience with breast cancer and the impact that it had on her career. Shortly after her cancer diagnosis, mastectomy and reconstruction, she learned that the company where she worked folded and she no longer had a job. Wilde described this time, saying "'I felt as though the cancer had stripped me of my identity, and now I was unemployed and, in my mind, unemployable. I remember crying for the person I had been and fearing that I would never be my old self again'". She goes on to describe her cancer and work journey, and how she felt once she finally started working again: "‘I’ve come to realise that I have a great deal of inner strength. Being back at work has felt like putting the final piece of my self-esteem back in place.’"
