The Edmonton Sun spoke with Sabres broadcaster Rick Jeanneret about his throat cancer experience, which was a particularly devastating diagnosis for him, since his voice is also his career. Jeanneret underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments, he said that surgery would have ended his career completely.
Since Jeanneret has been recovering, the Sabres said that he can call whatever games he wants: "The Sabres have given Jeanneret carte blanche on broadcasting. He can call whatever game he chooses for how long he wants. Some nights he can go two periods, some nights just one. Full games are rare." Jeanneret is winding down his career, but the support from the team and the fans have helped him through his cancer journey.
