Simons was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006 and underwent surgery and chemotherapy, continuing to take work throughout treatment. The downturn in the economy combined with his diagnosis took a toll on Simons business, but he persevered and is now offering a service to preserve old photos digitally.
