Gerald Ensley - October 2014
The Tallahassee Democrat wrote an article about Nicki Sanders, a cancer survivor and RN who's career has been significantly influenced by her cancer experiences over the years. Sanders is a breast cancer survivor and now works as the breast cancer nurse navigator at Capital Regional Medical Center. She decided that she wanted to be a nurse when she was 18 and diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Sanders had to have her spleen removed and the incredible care she received from the nurses inspired her to become a nurse.
She was diagnosed and successfully treated for breast cancer in 2011. Speaking of her career as a nurse navigator for breast cancer patients, she said " 'I'm a great teaching tool,' Sanders said. 'I'm not shy about talking about my experience and showing what I had done and what they're going to look like (after cancer surgery). As a breast cancer survivor, it makes me credible in this role.' "
