NY1 anchor Roma Torre returned to the newsroom Thursday after being declared free of colon cancer by doctors, reports the Daily News. Torre took a leave of absence from the station to seek treatment after being diagnosed in August.
The Daily News reports Torre saying that she tried to keep a low profile avoid seeing people because she knew there would be a lot of emotion, but couldn’t hide from people coming up and giving her big hugs.
“ 'It felt so much like a family when I came back today,' she said. 'It was so endearing to see this kind of love and support from your co-workers. When you get right down to it, it’s just a job, but at NY1, I have to be honest, it’s a little bit more than that for us.' ”
Her first assignment back at work was a review of a Broadway show. Torre plans to return to the anchor desk for her regular schedule in November, but until then, she will be working part-time hours starting Monday.
